"YOU DON'T GET ANY MEDALS FOR TRYING" (CHARLIE WEIS)

Notre Dame mounted a dramatic comback in yesterday's home opener against Michigan State, making up a 21-point deficit; but, the nation's #10-ranked team ultimately fell to the Spartans in overtime, 44-41, and some would argue on their own swords. This was the fifth consecutive defeat of The Irish by the Spartans before a home crowd in South Bend.

To his credit, Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis didn't draw from among the customary platitudes and cliches most head coaches use after suffering such a defeat. There was no talk about "character building" and the kids "showing a lot of heart." No, Charlie is a winner. Here's what Charlie Weis had to say:

YOU DON'T GET ANY MEDALS FOR TRYING.
