"TIGHTENING OF HOMELAND SECURITY" -- RIGHT!

The Associated Press (AP) writer's lead in this story would be utterly laughable, if it weren't so galling.

The tightening of homeland security since 2001 has not stemmed undocumented immigration into the United States, with a report released Monday showing the number of illegal immigrants growing by roughly 485,000 people a year.

This is news? What tightening? (Forgot -- they make arthritic geriatrics remove their shoes at airport security check points! Good for the ever-alert Feds!).

Sure hope President Bush reads the newspaper before meeting with Presidente Vicente Fox at the president's ranch in Crawford, Texas, tomorrow. Kind of important that he knows via the Associated Press that there's a veritable invasion going on and this country of ours is being overrun by hordes of illegal aliens and no doubt the many terrorists who enter the country with them.

The Department of Homeland Security is a misnomer, as long as the president and both political parties ignore the porosity of our nation's borders. In the wake of "9/11," the unchecked illegal alien problem in this country is criminal (double-entendre intended).

If I had my way, President Bush and Presidente Fox would meet at a conference table set up out in the open and just south of Interstate 10 in El Paso, Texas, so while they swapped stories of mutual admiration and affection, they could observe the illegals crossing into the United States in broad daylight. I've been there. I've seen it firsthand. There are even highway warning signs cautioning motorists to watch for illegals crossing the roadways! That's a fact!

By the way, that figure of 485,000/year is baloney!
