DEATH BENEFIT INCREASE FOR COMBAT TROOPS

President Bush, responding to growing calls for death benefits increases for American troops in combat zones, will present a proposal to Congress for a supplemental death benefit of $250,000 to be made to the surviving beneficiaries of troops killed in Iraq, Afghanistan, or any other designated war zone. Such payments, if approved by Congress, will apply retroactively as well. A groundswell of support is expected. It's the right thing to do.
