A BRAVE MAN WHO SHOULDN'T REQUIRE A DEFENSE

I feel I owe this link to US Marine Corps Lt. General Jim Mattis, who has been unfairly pilloried in the press for declaring that he enjoys (my choice of verbs) killing terrorists. Scroll through my posts of this week and you'll see that I was late in coming to this, but better late than never. I trust I've learned something from this contoversy: to consider quotes in their context and to give brave heroes the benefit of the doubt. I blog in the comfort of my Study because men like Jim Mattis defend this country and put their lives on the line to protect not only the freedom of Americans, but to give the oppressed a new birth of freedom.
