A deadly commuter train crash in the community of Glendale, California, has resulted in at least 7 deaths and with scores of others injured. The Metrolink train reportedly struck an abandoned automobile straddling the tracks. From this Fox News account, an arrest may have been made.

It has been a long, laborous, uphill fight in car-loving southern California to get people to forsake private vehicles for commuter trains and other modes of mass transit. Traffic congestion in southern California is the stuff of legends and on many of the main arteries (e.g., I-5) what's truly a "rush hour" in some cities is more like an around-the-clock, bumper-to-bumper, stop-n-go ordeal for Angelinos.

This tragedy, regrettably, may change some minds in the wrong direction.
