RICE WINS CONFIRMATION: 85-13 SENATE VOTE

Condoleezza Rice became this nation's first black female Secretary of State, in what even the quintessentially liberal-biased NYT had to concede was a remarkable ascent. Good for "Condi."

There were those not in agreement with the Senate's decision -- namely, 12 Democrats and 1 Independent, Robert Bryd, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Barbara Boxer, and Evan Bayh among them. No Republican Senator voted against Dr. Rice.

Joe Lieberman, to his credit, voted for her confirmation and was supportive throughout.
