Congratulations to the back-to-back National Champions -- the USC Trojans. They ended any lingering doubt tonight about whether Oklahoma or Auburn was more deserving. USC has won 33 of its last 34 games. Auburn by not playing for the national title likely averted a potential embarrassment. The hapless Sooners will not soon forget the beating they took in the Orange Bowl. That said, both Oklahoma and Auburn had terrific seasons and they're a credit to the game. All I could think about tonight in watching USC perform so convincingly was the steep mountain Head Coach Charlie Weis must climb in getting Notre Dame back to a competitive level. Knute Rockne would have marveled at USC's proficiency tonight. Weis may have had difficulty in drawing a breath.
