JOHNNY CARSON DEAD AT 79

It'll sound cliched, but America has lost one of the originals in television entertainment. I'll watch Leno from time to time, although I frankly prefer Letterman; but late-night T.V. has never been quite the same since Carson stepped down. He left a vacumn and it wasn't properly filled, which was testimony to his talent and ability to connect with his guests and his audience. Yes, it bears saying -- he was an icon. Quite a shame that his generation had the big time cigarette addiction.
